time to make a change

sigh. too busy in camp nowadays. too tired to do any updates after i get back home every weekend. being a civil servant i tough work. it is our job to become target boards with a big bulls-eye for “sai gang” to hit. do this. do that. please be in charge of this. help me go get that. sigh. but still, i think i’m having a good time with my men. i’ve been nice so far. wait til they push my limit button. haha!! weekends are still clubbing nights and i really want to change that fact. too much drinking and partying.. oh and lots of nagging too. sianz.
anyway, went over to butter factory last night. think there was a guest dj there and the place was jammed pack. was in the queue for about an hour. moving from only the railing by the sea to almost the front of the queue. by then, i was quite pissed already. to top it up, they put up the full house board. bloody hell!! we decided to wait a little longer until we got fed up and left. went over to phuture instead. it was less crowded and there was more air to breathe. hang around for about 2 hours or so and we went back home. probably one of those sucky night out i’ve ever had. pui!

Finally, the beng has come back… home. This worn out soldier had his days in taiwan for long enough. Though RnR could have been a little longer, if you ask me. Loads to do this weekend and i’m off to do them. soon.

15th November
END OF WARRIOR
Finally, the 7 days of straight outfield is over and our stay in
Taiwan is almost coming to an end. 2 more days of administrative
stuff, RnR and it ‘home sweet home’. I can’t wait to get home and see
the people I miss the most when I’m here.
The past week was to some extent, long and torturous. It started
turning cold again. It wasn’t so bad during the day, but as night
falls, it gets horribly cold for this poor dude. Worse still, was when
it began to rain. Temperature dropped to 10plus degrees. Sleeping with
3 layers of clothing is pointless. On the second last day, it was
raining through the daytime til it got dark. Fog was thick after the
rain stopped. Visibility was only a mere 5 metres, tops. That’s when
me and 5 of my section mates huddled close around the small fire we
made, cooked noodles and bonded. I really felt like going home right
then. It was freezing, we’re all hungry and there wasn’t much space to
sit in that small patch of land. The loose soil around us in that
orange plantation on top of the knoll turned into muddy slides, making
movement anywhere very limited. It was a very unforgettable experience
but I’m glad it over now.
I think I picked up a lot during this trip to Taiwan and most likely
I’ll remember it for a very very long time. Hopefully this would be
something I can share with people during my stay with the army.

8th November
DAY OF MOVING OUT FOR EX WARRIOR
Today is the day we would be going out for our 7 days of field camp.
Suppose to be a day of recovery after navigation exercise, but we all
end up having to pack and get ready to move off at night. Another week
of outfield, chiong sua-ing and combat rations before we can unwind
during RnR. 3 days of that and we fly home. A week later, we all
become 3rd sgts. Hopefully. Haha!! I wanna get home and see my
friends, eat chok, slp in my own bed, go clubbing, surf the net,
download shows, watch them, download some more, watch some more, go
drinking, see my cousins, eat seafood, play mahjong, if possible, play
poker, etc… There’s so many things I haven’t done for a while
already. Been thinking about it for a few days now.
Still a little tired from navigation. Guess the puny matteress on my
side of the bunk bed have to do for now..

7th November
Sat down at the smoking area for the past 2 hour or so, listening to different people of different teams telling stories of how they spent their past 3 days out in the wilderness. It was rather interesting to find out how everyone ‘ho-lan-ded’ (got lost). Haha!! Some went through the wrong path, while some others just don’t know where the hell they were going. But thanks to the ninja scooters, most of the teams were able to find our checkpoints easier. Let me explain these interesting vehicles. They are actually vendors selling bubble tea, chicken cutlet, nuggets and various food while riding around on their motorbikes. And they actually know where each of the checkpoints are. Haha!! Oh and why did we called the ninja scooters, you would ask. Well, we were not suppose to purchase anything while we’re out. Hell, we’re not even suppose to have any money on us. We were only to survive on the combat rations we carry around. Anyway, they would appear out of nowhere, stop for us to buy munchies, and disappear after we’re done. When we hear any land rovers from a distance, the teams would all hide and the ninjas would cleverly no stop and move on, which was actually quite adrenaline pumping. Haha!! I guess these guys have been doing this for many many batches of trainees already, so they really know their shit. We all hafta thank them and some of the locals who helped us out. Without them, most of us would still be out there somewhere, lost, exhuasted and hungry.

7th November
RIGHT AFTER LONG STRIDE
Have been in Taiwan for a week now, and mostly it was quite great. Its
autumn here by the way and the weather is very cooling. Except for the
first few days after we landed. That was when the cold front came..
The wind blows chilling air that makes you wanna dig a hole and just
hibernate. At least its getting better now. Another thing is that it
gets bright early, as in 6am early, and it turns dark before you can
have dinner. Still trying to get used to that.
Was out in the open in the past 3 days for navigation exercise. Back
home, we fight the weather. Here in Taiwan, we fight the freaking
terrain. We climbed up and down hills and valleys, slept in a sleeping
bag out in the open and walk for more than 30km throughout the
exercise. I was on the top of a knoll when an earthquake hit. My team
stunned for a moment before we quickly ducked low. Thank the heavens
none of us fell of the ridge coz it would have been a long way down,
in the dark. It still think it was amazing how we managed to bash
uphill after last light. Haha!!
Some of the check points were as ” in- your- face” as it can be.
Others were treacherous as hell has been let loose. We had to climb to
the top of at least 3 knolls just to find one of our checkpoints.
Anyway I was just overjoyed that we were able to complete the
navigation within 2 days and to rest for a day more before our 7 days
of outfield starts.
Cigarettes have been at a count of infinity. Can’t for RnR sia. Woo!!
I’m missing home and friends a lot now.. I really wanna get home soon.

this is what happened to me last week when we went to st james right after book out.. long day before that. reached at 12mn and went in by 1am. got our bottle of henessy and started drinking by 2. met bang’s friend, sharon, and danced a bit by 2.30. anything that happened after 3/3.30 or so, i can’t friggin remember. didn’t even know our bottle of johnnie walker came and we drank it. ended up being dragged into a cab by the boys and somehow my parents found me sleeping against the lift lobby wall 7 am in the morning. hmmm..
crap lah! this should stop happening. i don’t want to be a hassle to my friends coz i know how it feels like to have your night ruined by having to stay sober enough to ensure their safety. somehow, this has got to stop.

lately, i’m getting quite pissed off with everything that has to do with my computer. internet connection is slow, laptop has major lag time. so on and so forth. think its time to get a new laptop. oh wait! i don’t have the money. why? i spent most of it already and i’m actually eating into my savings. i have been patronising boat quay a lot over the last 2 months and spending quite a significant amount of my monthly pay on bottles of martell. got to get this vice settled quickly before i drink everything away.
anyway just ended bslc in sispec last week. going to have a one week block leave before heading back to sispec for aslc. another 11 or 12 weeks of outfield and route marches. probably taking a good break and rest with the guys at phuket. oh wiat, i almost forgot. i’m running out of finance for this month. might not even make a trip to JB.

oh well, pray for me lah~~

its been 3 weeks into SISPEC and 5 weeks since is passed out of basic military training.. and as of the end of week3 in pasir leba camp, i am officially a quarter of a century old. 25 years of wisdom and i invested it into the army.. haha!! life as a trainee in SISPEC is mentally tiring compared to time in tekong. although now we are giving ourselves our own smoking breaks, i still preferred being in tekong orion company with my boys. but okay lah, so far so good loh right now. .
anyways as i was saying, i have just gained another full year of experience and wisdom and had just leveled up a notch. haha! on friday itself, i met up with the 6D-ians of yangzheng.. my bunch of friends, brothers and sisters who stood by each other over the many years of friendship and are still here when you need them. we had a simple supper gathering over at our usual hangout along yio chu kang road. had some satay, tehs and finally a cake and a present.. i would say bangren, my brother since pri 1, knows me best.. somehow he knew that i would be needing a new cap since i don’t have much hair now.. hahaha!! cake was chocolate and lots of cream. i liked it. erm just that i am not a big fan of cakes and stuff.. =p
went to pearlyn hoon’s place to play rock band and guitar heroes yesterday and met up with my mass comm peeps. drew chu is still getting fatter. haha!! i had to call mor peng sir. jarryl looks like a vietnamese farmer now. cherylene still laughs at almost anything. and hoonster is still the gaming queen. had a blast meeting up with mass commers. woot!!
later that night, i celebrated at phuture with some of the army guys i hang out with. i’d like to thank joel (my indian suck-cock buddy, partner in crime and the other half of our yin-yang combination) for leaving me out-of-commission for 2 hours without looking for me.. that’s what friends are for~~ thank wen bang for the 1st flaming lambo, martell on the rocks, shot of i-have-no-idea-what concoction he came up with, and for being late as usual.. haha!! thanks to chong yi for the special 2nd lambo. to jeffery, for being late and bring such a scaredy cat.. haha!! had quite a laugh at him though. and to all who toasted me and drank.. after some mixtures here and there, some dancing and smoking, i finally tak boleh tahan within 2 hours. sat at our table for a while, fell asleep, woke up went to the toilet to let loose, went out to the bridge and sat at the steps (as usual) and slept for the next hour or two. some b-day celebration huh?? hahah!! and thank god for cherri and cal who came after butter factory to get me. cherri was calling my phone and sms-ing me the whole while i was out there and even asked for joel’s number so she could call him up to go check on me. haha!! thank you, my friend! i am eternally grateful for that can of calamansi!! it was the best pick-me-up drink EVER! before that i was still groggy and tried to walk around but i couldn’t.. hmm so that’s why i stay outside for so long.. was beginning to wonder at that. well thank you cherri and cal for bailing me even after a long night at butterfac yourselves..
and now i wake up with a pounding headache and an aching body..

off to get some painkillers and to plot my map for navigation on monday

i need a medical status..

the past week in camp was somewhat gratifying.. finally managed to hit my gold for ippt with a time of 9.32mins for 2.4km run on wednesday. the following day cleared the Standard Obstacle Course (50m rundown, the obstacle course itself, and a final 600m run) with a time of 5.48mins.. almost died there and then i tell you.
oh i cleared the week of activities with a serious bout of flu, as of now i have not recovered and a fever is developing too. i need to see a doctor which i should have done so this previous week but i haven’t. crap. now i’m aiming for C, attend C.
damnit. i need to go blow my nose and lie down again.
